Restructuring at Dräger ProTech GmbH with loss of 100 jobs
The former Dräger business unit "Manufacturing Parts and Sub-Assemblies", which in 1998 became Dräger ProTech GmbH, Lübeck, a subsidiary of the Dräger Group with around 800 employees and an intra-group turnover of DM 150 million, is to undergo an extensive programme of restructuring. As Dräger Group senior management announced following a meeting of the Dräger ProTech GmbH Economic Committee, ProTech intends to reorganize and streamline its business processes.
Dräger ProTech GmbH, a complex manufacturing company which today is made up of seven different production departments (cutting, sheet metal processing, plastics engineering, surface technology, electronic components, work equipment construction and components assembly) will in future concentrate on the following four fields of activity and product areas: metal processing, plastic components, assembly/device technology and Technical Services. The business unit Electronic Components with around 130 employees is to be hived off at year's end to form an independent company.
The restructuring process will be initiated immediately once the various boards reach a decision, and will result in around 100 jobs being cut in the year 2000. The company's management will make every attempt to make these staff cutbacks as socially acceptable as possible, i.e. through early retirement, partial retirement for older employees, natural fluctuation and by finding positions for employees in other companies of the Dräger Group. The company's management expects these measures to result in increased competitiveness, greater customer orientation and, above all, long-term securing of the majority of ProTech jobs in Lübeck.
