Dräger: targets for 2001 achieved / turnaround accomplished / expectations again up-beat
It is with confidence that Lübeck-based Drägerwerk AG, a leading player in the market for medical, safety and aerospace technology, launches into the new fiscal year 2002. As indicated by CEO Theo Dräger, the provisional figures for fiscal 2001 indicate that the company managed to greatly improve profitability. The uptrend at Dräger Medical in the wake of the successful restructuring and another earnings gain by the strong Safety Technology division together brought about this reversal. As predicted at the 2000 stockholders’ meeting, both the Group as such and its biggest division, Dräger Medical, are now after just one year back in the black in terms of EBIT and EBT.
Compared with 2000, the Dräger Group’s sales rose by around 10% to a total of some €1.3 billion, of which Dräger Medical and Dräger Safety accounted for about €805 million (up 10%) and €420 million (up 11%), respectively. Sales gains were most pronounced outside of Germany, with Western Europe and Asia/Pacific showing the biggest growth rates.
For 2002, the Dräger Group once more expects a sales increase, this time of over 5%, coupled with an EBIT margin that outpaces sales growth. With the powerful market and technology positions of both Dräger Medical and Dräger Safety combined with ongoing productivity enhancements throughout, Dräger sees itself strengthened and in sound shape for the challenges ahead.
