| Almost as soon as the disastrous floods struck, Dräger companies Medical and Safety were ready to make available quick, unbureaucratic assistance on site. |
| Hospitals were kitted out with ventilation equipment and emergency devices. Fire brigade and rescue organization equipment, as well as instruments used to inspect and test heating systems, were repaired promptly, without fuss and free of charge. This meant that equipment damaged or rendered useless by the floodwater could be repaired or replaced by loan devices.
| Breathing air compressors, for example, which had literally "drowned" in the fire stations, were speedily replaced by loan compressors, as Dieter Hesse, Regional Manager East at Dräger Safety, reports. Dräger Safety staff are on constant alert, ready to service equipment on site or provide their assistance.
| Many hospitals were also hit hard by the floods. The central supply units in the basements, as well as many wards and departments, were no longer useable, so patients had to be evacuated. Intensive care beds at Dresden University Hospital in Eastern Germany were moved to the Leipzig Heart Centre, about 100 km further west. Within just a few hours, Dräger Medical was able to provide the ventilators these 11 patients urgently needed. Dräger staff were also involved in crisis teams, for instance at Dresden Airport, where an emergency hospital had been set up at Terminal 2 - Dräger made emergency equipment available and helped with coordination, set-up and instruction. |
| Dräger staff who are members of rescue organizations and, as such, are involved in aid missions, were given paid leave by the company to participate, insofar as the aid organizations were not able to provide payment themselves. The possibility of making financial assistance available to Dräger staff who have lost their homes in the flood areas and have been particularly affected is also being considered. |
| In total, around 100 Dräger employees are currently doing their utmost to help people in the flooded regions, either as members of rescue organizations or as specialist staff. So far, the assistance provided in terms of equipment and personnel already amounts to a six-digit figure, though it is expected that even more will be required. Dräger Medical and Dräger Safety are ready to do everything in their power to help.
