Dräger Medical can further widen its Lübeck location, under two conditions / firstly: more flexible working time arrangements, secondly: incentive payroll systems / location competition and investment
Lübeck-the management of Dräger Medical, Lübeck, Dräger’s largest subgroup with around 4,800 employees worldwide and some €805 million annual sales in 2001 (70 percent foreign share), today made an offer to the works council for improving the general conditions at the Lübeck location and its presently approximately 1,500 employees. Within the framework of its global realignment and optimization process, Dräger Medical has had to rethink and reallocate the manufacture of its products (anesthesia, ventilation, neo-natal, emergency, critical, home care, equipment & systems) in terms of the individual source locations. Presently, Dräger Medical has a global production network with the Lübeck, Best, NL, Telford, USA, and Shanghai, China, locations. The planned joint venture with Siemens Medical will probably lead to another two locations (Danvers, USA, Solna, Sweden).
Dräger Medical’s management is presently examining which locations will in future be able to work more efficiently, and whether the role of the Lübeck production location is to be strengthened and widened in this context. The following criteria are decisive factors for this location selection, especially for new products: the flexibility of the relevant locations in terms of order fluctuations, the skills and motivation of employees, the respective cost levels of production and, from the viewpoint of the customer, easy and uncomplicated interaction with the appropriate location. ”We aim at a responsive, interactive factory,” says Dr. Wolfgang Reim, Dräger Medical’s CEO. ”Inside only a few days, production capacity must be adjustable to the existing workload quickly and without additional costs-a level of 135 percent has to be possible just as speedily as a reduction to 65 percent. Our customers insist on the right delivery times and will not accept any price premium for this.”
