Within the framework of its cooperation
with the Fire and Disaster Prevention
Academy (BKS) in Heyrothsberge, the
Dräger Safety Academy has extended the
range of seminars it offers.
The following additional seminars are now
available:
- Use of thermal imaging cameras
- Work and rescue using ropes at workplaces which at times are at high altitude
- Supervisor of work in containers, enclosed and confined spaces.
The seminar entitled "Use of thermal imaging
cameras" not only gives participants
the theoretical knowledge they will need
in the respective applications, but also
teaches them how to handle the camera
in the event of a fire in a room or when
checking filling levels in a container. Among
other facilities used, advantage is taken
during this seminar of the new fire house
which was built by the the Institute of the
Fire Department (IdF) in Heyrothsberge,
and features real fire and smoke. Part of
the training also includes how to identify
and detect pockets of embers.
When using ropes during work at workplaces
which at times are at high altitude,
it is extremely important to learn how to
respond correctly in dangerous situations.
High-altitude rescue operations likewise
demand regular and very specific training.
This seminar uses the facilities on offer at
the Fire and Disaster Prevention Academy
to provide a comprehensive course of practical
training. For highly-skilled workers in
industry who are required to perform work
on lattice masts, broadcasting towers etc.
and who use ropes for access and/or
positioning purposes, this training forms
an important part of their daily work. In the
coming year, an Expert training course
(BGG 906) will be on offer.
Work in enclosed spaces, confined spaces
and containers places extremely high demands
on everyone involved. Because such
work often entails intervening in secured
processes, safe facilities can become
dangerous if the accident prevention regulations
are ignored, and the consequences
of this are frequently underestimated. To
sensitize those concerned to the potential
danger, a fundamental course of training
is needed. For training of trainers or supervisors,
the Dräger Safety Academy, in
cooperation with the BKS, trains people to
act as supervisors of work in containers,
enclosed and confined spaces.
In combination with the mobile facility to
practice entering containers, confined and
enclosed spaces, this is the ideal way to
train workers in accordance with the relevant
regulations. This facility allows training
to be conducted on site, meaning there
are no additional travel costs. The facility
comprises a car trailer on which a container
and a pipe (with an inside diameter of
1,000 mm) are mounted. On the roof is
the entrance, which can be provided with
various types of opening.
Container rescue can also be performed,
preceded by an all-clear measurement.
There are also other ways of making the
exercise more realistic.
In addition, the practical seminars are also
being extended: since demand for hightemperature
training courses is growing all
the time, the Dräger Safety Academy now
runs joint flashover seminars in Brunswick
with its cooperation partner the Brunswick
Professional Fire Brigade.
Another practical seminar gives participants
the qualifications they need to work as
trainers in Dräger Safety's mobile gaspowered
fire training galleries (FireDragon
II, III, IV). The objectives of this seminar are
to achieve optimum utilization of the training
galleries and to adapt the course contents
to individual training needs.
