Often the best or most useful way to deal with waste is to burn it. This has the advantage of greatly decreasing its volume and the amount of space required to bury it. Sometimes there are useful by products such as the electricity generated by the burning process. Unfortunately, there is a downside to this. The combustion process can produce many poisonous substances such as NO and sulphur dioxide. The ash that is produced also can contain highly concentrated hazards such as lead.
