An essential part of preventing healthcare associated infections

Hospitalised patients are inherently at a higher risk of infections, attributed largely to compromised immune systems. This vulnerability is substantiated by data indicating that 7% of patients in developed countries and 10% in developing countries will contract at least one healthcare-associated infection (HAI)1. The World Health Organization (WHO) further underscores the severity of this global health challenge, estimating that over 100 million individuals are affected by HAIs annually2. Additionally, research suggests that up to 70% of these infections could potentially be averted through appropriate hygiene practices3, stressing the critical role of effective infection control measures.

Infection-Prevention-Scene-3-2-D-6557-2018.jpg

Ensuring the integrity of hospital environments through the use of high-quality disposable and reusable accessories becomes an essential part of mitigating the risk of nosocomial infections4. This is one of the reasons why our products are designed to meet the highest standards of usability and efficiency and play a pivotal role in this comprehensive approach. By facilitating infection control at every stage of the patient’s care pathway, we contribute significantly to enhancing patient safety and comfort. Dräger consumables and accessories are thoroughly tested and tried to suite the demands of critical care settings. In a hectic healthcare environment, full of administrative challenges5, we provide you with a wide range of consumables that support all patients, regardless of age, from admission to discharge.

An essential part of securing your performance

 Testing-Center-Scene-Hospital-Consumables-Accessories

The necessity of precision in patient treatment in a complex clinical environment demands the highest standards. Even though they are sometimes small parts, consumables are critical instruments that ensure your devices are functioning at peak performance when treating patients. They need to perform reliably to prevent complications and support the critical work of healthcare professionals. A staggering 70% of adverse events can be related to user errors and to inadequate use of medical devices1. This is why we make sure that each of our original accessories meets all official quality standards and is measured against strict internal standards at our accredited test centre. It takes nearly 100,000 rounds of testing before a consumable or accessory is made available to our customers.

HCA-Scene-3-2-D-10136-2018.jpg

Our consumables and accessories are extensively tested with both their intended devices and related consumables or connected products. This ensures optimal operational performance and reduces the risk of missing compatibility. —they’re an essential part of providing patient safety.
Dräger consumables and accessories are tested with our medical devices according to the standards including but not limited to ISO 80601-2-12 (critical care ventilators), ISO 80601-2-13 (anaesthetic workstation), ISO 80601-2-19 (infant incubators), ISO 80601-2-74 (respiratory humidifying equipment). A Declaration of Compatibility certifies that a certain product has been tested in combination with the corresponding device. For optimal results and safety, it is essential to use Dräger approved consumables and accessories and with Dräger devices, otherwise correct functioning and performance might be compromised.

An essential part of helping to protect our future

“As a family entrepreneur, the things I do today, I want to be able to explain to my children tomorrow.”

For us, sustainability reaches beyond our company grounds. It means creating the best possible conditions for our customers, business partners, employees – and our planet as a whole.

As Your Specialist in Acute Care, this is our commitment. This is the responsibility we have for a healthier environment.

HCA Sustainability

Hospitals play an important role in achieving national climate targets. If healthcare were a country, it would be the world’s 5th largest emitter with emissions of 4.4% of global greenhouse gases.1
In Germany, hospitals are the fifth largest producer of waste and in the US, hospitals produce more than 8 kg of waste per bed per day.2 This is a global healthcare challenge where supply chain routes are also a factor.
The reality is that large amounts of waste and emissions are generated during the medical care of patients. Dräger aims to make hospital consumables and accessories sustainable across the whole product life cycle in order to sustainably reduce waste. We aim to be an essential part of protecting our future, from production to delivery, ensuring responsible stewardship every step of the way.

An essential part of securing patient safety and comfort

Quality-Reliability-Hospital-Consumables-Accessories

Patient harm is a critical global health concern, with 64 million disability-adjusted life years lost annually due to unsafe care worldwide. Patient harm from adverse events ranks among the top 10 causes of death and disability globally1. The economic and social implications are severe, with approximately 15% of hospital expenditures in OECD countries addressing safety failures, alongside the erosion of trust in health systems, governments, and social institutions2,3. Alarmingly, one in ten patients suffers harm during healthcare delivery, resulting in over three million deaths annually due to unsafe care. In low-to-middle income countries, the fatality rate from unsafe care is higher, with up to 4 in every 100 patients3.

Ventilation-Scene-3-2-D-10125-2018.jpg

Biocompatibility testing of medical devices and biomaterials is crucial to mitigate risks such as adverse reactions, tissue damage, thrombosis, haemolysis, acute systemic toxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and device failure4. These issues jeopardize patient safety and cause harm and discomfort. Our product range for non-invasive ventilation (NIV), prioritizes patient safety and comfort. By using soft, hypoallergenic materials and ergonomic designs, we aim to minimize complications and enhance care quality. NIV reduces treatment errors, shortens ICU and hospital stays, improves quality of life, and increases survival rates, especially when applied early5,6,7. By focusing on lung protective ventilation and biocompatibility compliance, we advance healthcare solutions that improve clinical outcomes. Our accessories and consumables are designed with patient comfort and ease of use in mind— they are an essential part of securing patient safety and comfort.

Case Scenario: Rotation strategies can improve NIV tolerance

A key component when using non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is rotation strategies, e.g. alternating mask types and selecting suitable interfaces. This significantly improves NIV outcomes by reducing skin breakdown, ulcerations, and pressure points8,9. These strategies enhance comfort, tolerance, and effectiveness10,11. Dräger ventilation masks are made with medical-grade materials and compatible with a variety of interfaces, are an essential part of NIV strategies.

An essential part of supporting to increase work efficiency and cost savings.

Enhancing workplace efficiency in healthcare is not just about optimising operations; it's about ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients while maintaining the well-being of staff.
Challenges such as staff shortages, heightened workloads, and critical incidents exacerbate the stress on personnel, for example, more than 80% of all critical incidents are related to loss of situation awareness from lack of awareness or understanding.1

We take a holistic approach that includes the integration of devices, consumables and accessories, user needs and the environment. By engineering solutions that ensure compatibility and functionality, we have developed a one-working system that enhances safety and streamlines workflows. Additionally, we conduct rigorous testing that complies with international standards like IEC 62366 and the FDA Guidance, which applies to Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices.

Preventing nosocomial infections

Each year in Germany about 400,000 to 600,000 patients acquire nosocomial infections. Affected patients have increased morbidity and according to the National Surveillance Center (NRZ), 20-30% of these infections could be prevented with suitable hygiene measures.
