Expiratory Filters

Dräger disposable Expiratory Filters offer a safe and convenient solution in the clinical environment. The disposable Expiratory Filter is suitable for adult and pediatric ventilation using either the reusable or disposable Expiratory Valve.

Clinical challenge

Utilizing Expiratory Filters is an approach to address concerns regarding the spread of respiratory infections.

In several countries, national medical associations have already put forth guidelines recommending the utilization of breathing system filters during mechanical ventilation.1, 2

1 Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, 2004, Directive to all Ontario Health Care Facilities/Settings for High-Risk Aerosol Generating Procedures under Outbreak Conditions, Directive HR04-13
2 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Health-Care Settings, 2005 MMWR 2005; 54 (No. RR-17)

The Dräger solution

These Expiratory Filters are mechanical HEPA filters which create a barrier that helps to prevent micro-organisms from being aerosolized into the environment.

The Expiratory Filters are designed to seamlessly integrate with Dräger ventilators to create a tailored solution when filtering exhaled gas from the patient.

Dräger offers two different versions of Expiratory Filters. Customers using intensive care ventilators which support the Infinity® ID technology are recommended to use the Infinity ID Expiratory Filter. For devices which have no ID capatilities we provide an alternative version without Infinity ID features.

Enhanced functionality

  • Passively heated filters to reduce condensate3
  • Dual-wall HEPA filter
  • Anticipated lifetime of 7 days reduces routine breaks in the breathing circuit to change filters
  • Single patient use

3 The filter becomes passively heated by way of warm air flow. Convective heat of the Evita® Infinity® V500 passes over the Expiratory Filter surface.

Infection prevention

The Expiratory Filters are N100 equivalent filters which means that it is more than 99.97 % effective in removing particles of the most penetrating particle size (MPPS). Therefore the flow sensor and expiratory valve may be kept free of respiratory pathogens. Moreover, this helps to minimize the risk of exposure to health care workers by decreasing environmental contamination.

Unique Infinity ID technology*

The disposable Infinity ID Expiratory Filter can be used with all Infinity ID compatible devices**. It is suitable for adult and pediatric ventilation using either the reusable or disposable Expiratory Valve.
Immediately after the Infinity ID Expiratory Filter is connected, the attached Infinity ID transponder is detected wirelessly by the device. This automatic detection helps to improve your clinical workflow and to keep track of your individual exchange interval.4
