Gas Detection on the Fire Ground - Draeger up

Gas Detection on the Fire Ground

More and more, Fire Departments are relying on the gas detection to manage resources on the Fire Ground. News reports will often report people or Firefighters “overcome by smoke,” including personnel outside the Hot Zone in support roles. More than likely, these Firefighters succumbed to one or both of the Toxic Twins, or any of the other dangerous gases present on the Fire Ground.

The comprehensive collection of single-, dual-, and multi-gas detectors from Dräger provide Fire Command information to make appropriate decisions about the safety of Firefighters and others.

The Toxic Twins

Toxic gases like carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) are be present on the Fire Ground. In fact, both of these gases are often found on the Fire Ground.

While either by itself is dangerous or even deadly, the combination of the two are exponentially worse, earning them the distinctive name, the Toxic Twins.  Visible smoke is a good guideline, however the Toxic Twins are both colorless. CO is odorless and HCN has the odor of almonds, although it could be masked by the smoke and other Fire Ground smells.

Single-Gas Detection on the Fire Ground

Draeger Pac 6000

Dräger Pac 6000

When it comes to single-gas detection, Fire Departments universally focus on the “silent killer,” carbon monoxide (CO). With a Dräger Pac 6000 disposable gas detector, your team will be alerted as soon as they step into a home with CO present. The Dräger Pac® 6000 is completely hassle-free and measures CO, H2S, SO2 or O2 reliably and precisely, even in the toughest conditions thanks to its robust design. Turn it on, strap it to your medical kit, and leave it on 24/7 for up to two years with no maintenance necessary.

Powerful sensors ensure quick reactions, and the shock and chemical proof housing protects from foreign matters and extreme temperatures. Designed with your safety in mind, the Pac® 6000 is a cost-effective and reliable detector for every fire ground.

Draeger Pac 6500

Dräger Pac 6500

The Dräger Pac 6500 is a personal single-gas detection device that offers reliable and precise gas detection under extreme temperatures and rough conditions. Powerful sensors offer quick measurements of CO, H2S, SO2 or O2 in hazardous concentrations, alerting your team to dangers on the fire ground. Its user-friendly and durable design make it the perfect gas detector for any firefighter while its powerful, replaceable battery is a cost-effective solution to any department’s budget.

Draeger Pac 8000

Dräger Pac 8000

Reliable, robust, and built to function in the toughest conditions a fire ground can provide, the Dräger Pac 8000 is a non-disposable personal single-gas detection device that provides peace of mind on the fire ground. The powerful sensors offer quick, precise detection of hazardous concentrations of 29 different gases, including special gases like NO2, O3 or COCl2 – even extreme temperatures. Thanks to its long battery life, user-friendly interface and dependable gas detection, the Pac 8000 can be handled by any firefighter for protection in every zone of a fire ground.

Dual-Gas Detection on the Fire Ground

Draeger Pac 8500

Dräger Pac 8500

The Dräger Pac 8500 dual-gas detection device is a reliable and precise instrument even under the strain of fire ground conditions. This detector can be equipped with a hydrogen-compensated CO sensor or a Dräger dual sensor. The dual sensors provide the option of measuring two gases at once: either H2S with CO or O2 with CO. Thanks to the special hydrogen-compensated CO sensor from Dräger, the risk of cross sensitivity to hydrogen is significantly reduced in the display of carbon monoxide. This new feature can eliminate the need to carry two different detectors. It’s robust housing and powerful sensors offer quick response time and precise measurement in extreme temperatures. Stay alert and be prepared on any fire ground with the Pac 8500.

X-pid 8500

X-pid 9500

Dräger’s X-pid 9500 is a selective PID gas measurement device ideal for users who frequently test for hazardous toxic substances even in the smallest concentrations. Other gases and vapors are always present on the fire ground, that’s why the X-pid 9500 is designed to provide laboratory-quality compound measurements in seconds right on the fire ground. Unlike other detection systems, the X-pid 9500 saves considerable time in testing and enables further monitoring to be undertaken, as well as providing simultaneous measurement of other compounds.

Tube Kits for the Fire Ground

Hazmat Simultest Kit

Simultaneous Test Sets

Risks and potential dangers at a glance: The Simultaneous Test Sets allow the measurement of five different gases at the same time. Simultaneous test sets are configured with 5 Draeger tubes which have been specially calibrated to operate as a unit. The air to be monitored is simultaneously drawn in through the tubes by a Dräger gas detector pump. Quick determinations are made about the presence of dangerous substances at TLV levels.

Civil Defense Simultest Kit

Civil Defense Simultest Kit

The Dräger Civil Defense Simultest (CDS) Kit uses specialized Dräger simultaneous tube sets to reliably detect the presence of nerve, blister, blood and choking agents in a streamlined process. Dräger’s CDS sets are prepackaged sets of 5 tubes for chemical agents that can be tested in as little as 5 minutes simultaneously. Built to perform under the harsh conditions of a fire ground, the Civil Defense Simultest Kit requires no calibration and is ready for immediate use in emergency response situations.

Aerotest Case

Test the Quality of Compressed Air in Firefighter Cylinders

Dräger’s Aerotest allows firefighters to assess the purity measurement of breathing air supplied by a compressor or a compressed gas cylinder. The measuring device can be connected to the compressed air supply system and monitored easily, delivering a precise measurement result and degrees of contamination in just five minutes so your team can feel confident in their gear on the fire ground.

X-Dock

X-dock Makes Bump Tests and Calibration Easy

The Dräger X-dock comes in multiple configurations to allow for flexibility, depending on the type of detection instrumentation being used. It is loaded with fast and convenient features like automatic bump tests and calibrations, reduced test gas consumptions, short testing times and stores detailed data via Dräger X-dock Manager. Testing is as simple as inserting your Dräger gas detection instrument and closing the lid.

X-am 8000 Multi-gas Detector on the Fire Ground

The Dräger X-am 8000 provides a robust seven-gas detector in both diffusion and pump mode. Working with a major North American Fire Departments, Dräger developed a telescoping probe that allows single-hand operation, meaning a Firefighter can check for toxic gases in confined spaces.

Pac 6000 CO for EMS workers and firefighters

When First Responders approach what appears to be a benign situation — a sick person in a home — the Dräger Pac 6000 CO serves as a handy notification that maybe the situation isn’t as benign. If the Dräger Pac 6000 CO alerts, the area may be an IDLH, which requires First Responders to either evacuate themselves and others or don SCBAs for safe rescue.
