Conquering the Toxic Twins with the X-am 5800

In the challenging world of firefighting, toxic gases pose significant risks. The Dräger X-am® 5800 multi-gas detector, equipped with advanced sensor technology, is your tool to combat these hazards. It detects up to six gases simultaneously, including the notorious Toxic Twins — hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and carbon monoxide (CO). This device ensures your team's safety by keeping a vigilant watch over gas levels.

The X-am 5800 prepares you for potential dangers, allowing prompt action to protect your team. It's effective in various situations, from firefighting to routine maintenance. The device constantly monitors gas levels, whether attached to an apparatus or worn by a person. Its design is small, lightweight, and user-friendly, even with gloves on, thanks to large buttons. The device is also tough and durable, reliable even in the most demanding firefighting conditions.

Essential for emergency responders, the X-am 5800 offers quick and accurate gas concentration measurements in diverse environments. It's a crucial tool in safeguarding against the invisible threat of toxic gases.

The Toxic Twins

Toxic gases like hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and carbon monoxide (CO) are common in firefighting scenarios. These gases, known as the Toxic Twins, can be extremely hazardous, especially when combined. They are often colorless; CO is odorless, and HCN may have an almond smell, which could be masked by other odors at a fire scene.

The X-am 5800 multi-gas detector excels in detecting these gases. It offers a configuration option with the Toxic Twins Sensor, allowing for the simultaneous detection of HCN and CO. It alerts users at the first sign of danger, providing real-time monitoring of gas levels.

This device comes with advanced sensor technology, including the CatEx SR sensor, which can detect flammable vapors like petrol, diesel, and nonane. It's robust against poisoning substances, ensuring reliability and durability. Dräger develops its own powerful and durable electrochemical sensors, ensuring compatibility and reducing operating costs. The X-am 5800 is also compatible with the X-zone 5800 for extensive area monitoring.

The Toxic Twins

Toxic gases like carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) are be present on the Fire Ground. In fact, both of these gases are often found on the Fire Ground.

While either by itself is dangerous or even deadly, the combination of the two are exponentially worse, earning them the distinctive name, the Toxic Twins.  Visible smoke is a good guideline, however the Toxic Twins are both colorless. CO is odorless and HCN has the odor of almonds, although it could be masked by the smoke and other Fire Ground smells.

Mastering the Detection of Six Invisible Gases

The X-am 5800 multi-gas detector excels in the field of gas detection, identifying multiple gases quickly and accurately for emergency responders in various environments. Enhanced by the CatEx SR sensor, the X-am 5800 efficiently detects a wider range of hazards, including flammable vapors like petrol, diesel, and nonane.

Equipped with advanced sensors, the X-am 5800 skillfully detects hard-to-find gases such as HCN. The CatEx SR sensor enhances its detection capabilities with rapid calibration, outstanding shock resistance, and the ability to measure flammable vapors. It also allows for the selection of different measurement gases, including methane, propane, and hydrogen. Designed to resist poisoning substances like silicones, the CatEx SR sensor is both reliable and durable.

Team Coordination and Data Management
