Built to Breathe
—Breathing is not a feature. It is the foundation.
On the fireground, air is the one constant firefighters must rely on when everything else becomes unpredictable. Heat intensifies. Visibility collapses. Physical effort compounds. Time compresses. In those conditions, breathing cannot hesitate, fluctuate, or demand attention. It must simply be there — steady, responsive, and consistent from the first inhale to the last.
Reliable performance begins with that expectation. Not air that performs well early in the job, but air that behaves the same as fatigue sets in. Not air that meets requirements in controlled environments, but air that continues to deliver under stress, motion, and prolonged exertion. Firefighters do not have time to wonder whether their next breath will arrive. They expect it to.
Reliability on the fireground is not defined by passing a specification. It is defined by behavior. Systems that change feel under load, respond differently late in the operation, or introduce uncertainty at the worst possible moment fail the standard firefighters actually use. Most equipment does not fail all at once — it drifts. It becomes inconsistent when margins are thin.
The Dräger PSS AirBoss SCBA was built to resist that drift. Its pneumatics stay responsive. Its construction holds integrity under impact and repeated stress. Its electronics communicate clearly through noise and darkness. Its architecture is grounded in decades of proven Dräger technology refined through real-world use.
Built to breathe, not to break, AirBoss delivers steady, predictable performance firefighters feel with every inhale — reliability that does not fade when conditions turn hostile, but becomes even more essential.

Reliable Delivery of Air
Every breath must arrive exactly when it is needed. The AirBoss regulator delivers high-flow air the instant the firefighter pulls for it — whether climbing, crawling, searching, or advancing deeper into the structure. There is no lag. No fluctuation. No second of hesitation. If intentionally disconnected, airflow shuts off automatically to preserve cylinder air. When reconnecting, the non-indexing, 360-degree coupling guides the regulator into place from any angle, sealing quickly even in zero visibility. The result is breathing that feels natural and steady from entry to overhaul — air that responds as hard as the firefighter does.

PSS Air Lung-Demand Valve
Firefighters call it the regulator. At Dräger, it is the lung-demand valve — engineered for instant, dependable response. Dual independent release buttons prevent accidental disengagement under impact or contact. Both must be pressed simultaneously to disconnect, protecting the air supply in chaotic conditions. The 360-degree rotating connection preserves full head movement without binding or torque. Left- and right-hand configurations respect established muscle memory. The LDV behaves the way firefighters expect it to — secure, responsive, and out of the way — so breathing remains instinctive, not mechanical.

Ease of Use
AirBoss operates instinctively, stays familiar under stress, and keeps firefighters focused on the job instead of the gear.

Ergonomics & Mobility
AirBoss moves naturally with the body, stays balanced under load, and helps firefighters work longer with less strain.

Safety & Awareness
AirBoss maintains constant awareness and visibility, helping crews stay informed, connected, and oriented throughout the job.

Service & Uptime
AirBoss stays in service, returns to readiness quickly, and keeps crews equipped without unnecessary downtime.

Rugged Construction & Materials
Reliable performance is proven after repeated exposure to heat, impact, and abrasion. The AirBoss back frame is engineered to handle drag loads and sustained stress without losing alignment. Harness materials withstand heat and friction while maintaining shape and support. Critical components are protected and positioned to reduce snag risk during rescues and confined movement. Materials are selected not only for strength, but for consistency — ensuring the SCBA feels and performs the same after prolonged use as it did on day one. AirBoss is built to take the beating the job delivers without changing how it behaves.

Proven Technology Platform
Firefighters trust what has earned its place on the fireground. AirBoss is built on decades of Dräger engineering and frontline refinement. Core elements — breathing pneumatics, facepiece design, electronic monitoring, emergency air systems — draw from solutions worn and tested by fire services for years. These technologies evolved through repetition, feedback, and operational demand. Improvements were deliberate. Interfaces refined. Materials upgraded. Performance margins strengthened. But the behaviors firefighters depend on — predictable air delivery, stable fit, familiar operation — were preserved. AirBoss is not an experiment. It is a modern SCBA grounded in a platform already proven.

Redundancy & Safety Margins
When noise, darkness, and distance swallow alarms, redundancy matters. The integrated PASS system combines audible alarms with bright buddy lights visible from multiple angles. Alerts reach the team in more than one way, reducing the risk of missed signals. Electronics operate on either standard AA batteries or a rechargeable pack, adding flexibility and resilience. Communication components maintain independent power sources so one issue does not compromise the entire system. Behind the scenes, continuous self-monitoring provides advance warnings before power drops. Redundancy is not added as a feature. It is built as a safety margin.
