Try on a Dräger SCBA and Feel the Difference

The self-contained breathing apparatus, or SCBA, is the foundational tool that provides the greatest amount of airway protection from toxic gas and harmful particulates resulting from the fire. It’s essential for modern firefighting and today’s complex fire grounds.

When considering an SCBA, American firefighters cited comfort as the most important characteristic than any other. Dräger SCBAs earn the distinction of the most ergonomically comfortable. Try on a PSS 7000 and you'll agree.

As the inventor of the modern-day SCBAs specifically for firefighters, this year marks 80 years since that first Dräger SCBA. The Dräger SCBA provides the most robust breathing protection combined with unparalleled ergonomic comfort.

Dräger proudly offers the latest SCBA with extensive updates that earned the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982 certifications.

Why Choose Dräger?

The Most Ergonomically Comfortable SCBA Available

The Dräger SCBA was built with American firefighter comfort in mind.

The PSS 7000 ergonomically floats on the wearer’s waist thanks to the supportive waist belt that keeps the SCBA at a lower center of gravity. This allows for less stress on the wearer as a firefighter moves, twists, and reaches on the job.

No matter a firefighter's size or shape, the Dräger SCBA fits. The PSS 7000 includes a user-selected height adjustment. The waist band adjusts to practically any shape and offers a flexible pivot as the firefighter moves.

When you also consider that the full-face mask comes in nine different sizes, Dräger SCBAs fit any firefighter.

15 year bumper to bumper warranty fireman smoke

15-Year, Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty

The Dräger SCBA certified to the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982 include a 15-year, bumper-to-bumper warranty. The warranty includes first-stage pressure reducer, pneumatics, back frame, electronics, other hoses, harness assembly, and straps. Everything on a Dräger SCBA other than O-rings, mask exhalation values, mask hairnet, and the mask lens are covered by the best warranty in the industry. The Dräger warranty covers all the major components and only the consumable, wearable parts are not included.

Easy to clean with toolless disassembly and assembly fireman water

Easy to Clean with Toolless Disassembly and Assembly

No tools are required to clean the Dräger SCBA. In less than 60 seconds, the entire unit can be disassembled (and reassembled) with ease. This quick disassembly and our use of flame-resistant, rubberized materials allows for detailed disinfecting at the station.

Long lasting batteries

Long-Lasting Batteries

The waterproof battery compartment includes five AA batteries. Those five batteries will last one whole year — based on using an SCBA one hour a day for 365 days. This also means you don't have to recharge batteries or exchange a battery on the fire ground. Usually, during recommend semi-annual maintenance, the batteries should be replaced.

Below the battery compartment is a back-up battery. In the event there's a failure of the main battery pack, the backup battery will continue to power the head-up display device in the mask to relay information for continued air pressure readings.

2019 Edition NFPA Certification

Proven components and worn by thousands of Firefighters worldwide, the Dräger SCBA receives updates to meet the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982. Announced on Sept. 30, 2019, the 2019 Edition requires some changes to the Dräger SCBA.

Update to the connection between the lung-demand valve (LDV) and full-face mask

The lung-demand valve (also called the regulator) includes two buttons on either side where it fits into the full-face mask. The 2013 Edition contained a single button on the mask itself. The buttons operate independent of one another, but both must be pressed simultaneously in order to unlock the LDV from the mask. The new collar housing for the buttons serve as a guide to make it easier to fit the LDV into the mask’s connector.

Universal connectors on the Buddy Breather

Although a Universal Emergency Breathing Supply System (UEBSS) — better known as the Buddy Breather — is not required, it’s an option that many Fire Departments choose to include. The Buddy Breather allows two Firefighters to share a single air source. Although not a significant change for Dräger, NFPA certification to the 2019 edition of the standard required all manufacturers to use the same male and female connectors that Dräger has been using for many year.

Two Carrying System Options

Dräger’s SCBA models offer a variety of advantages on the fireground, including ergonomic fit to cleanability and user comfort.

PSS 7000 offers best ergonomic comfort

PSS 7000 Offers Best Ergonomic Comfort

The Dräger PSS 7000 carrying system makes the use of this vital equipment easier on the wearer with an ergonomic design that adjusts for height and pivots at the waist allowing for a one-size-fits all SCBA for firefighters of all shapes and sizes.

The supportive waist belt includes a floating action to keep the SCBA at a lower center of gravity putting less stress on the wearer as they perform their job. Made of flame-resistant, rubberized materials, the straps and belt are easy to clean on the fire ground. The back-frame houses all the upgraded pneumatics and protects hoses from potential snags.

The Dräger PSS 7000 is part of an SCBA ensemble certified to the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982.

PSS 5000 provide more economical choice

PSS 5000 Provide More Economical Choice

The Dräger PSS 5000 SCBA provides many of the advantages of the PSS® 7000 at a lower cost. Still ergonomic and comfortable, the waist belt is stable, allowing the wearer to twist and turn with ease.

Made of the same flame-resistant and rubberized materials, quick disassembly (and reassembly) and detailed cleaning of this Dräger SCBA is just as easy.

Available in one size, the PSS 5000 fits most and is certified to the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982.

Better visibility better fit fps 7000 protection mask

Better Visibility, Better Fit

Designed to offer optimal visibility, the Dräger FPS 7000 full-face mask sets new standards with 180-degree, panoramic visibility with triple-seal for maximum reliability and comfort. The large, distortion-free polycarbonate visor uses heat-resistant thermoplastic and prevents fogging of the visor with an innovative design that provides an even distribution of air flow across the mask.

To accommodate faces of different shapes and sizes, the FPS 7000 is available in small, medium, and large. Additionally, the inner mask that covers the nose and mouth comes in three different sizes. That's a total of nine different sizes to fit any face.

The mask comes in highly chemically resistant rubber with a hairnet designed to be donned and doffed quickly and easily. The FPS 7000 full-face mask is a required part of the Dräger SCBA ensemble meeting the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981.

FPS-COM 7000

Fire Ground and Tactical Communications

Dräger offers two in-mask communications options.

  • Team Talk Independent Fire Ground Communications can be found with the FPS-COM 7000. Perfect for small teams, the FPS-COM 7000 offers standalone hands-free communication between wearers.
  • Tactical Fire Ground Communications is available with the FPS-COM 5000. Meant to work with almost any radio system, the FPS-COM 5000 provides robust in-mask communications.
Monitoring air and firefighter safety Sentinel 7000

Monitoring Air and Firefighter Safety

An all-in-one distress signal unit and pressure gauge, the Dräger Sentinel 7000 is an electronic unit that provides continuous monitoring of operational status of a NFPA-certified SCBA (2019 Editions). All information is brought together clearly and rapidly on one easy-to-read digital display.

The lightweight device fits snugly in the palm of the hand, with large, easy-to-operate buttons, even when wearing gloves. Pressure and remaining air time are permanently displayed on the Sentinel 7000; the remaining estimated air adjusts based on the wearer’s current rate of consumption.

When triggered, the Personal Alert Safety System (PASS) flashes lights both on the unit and on the carrying systems. The alarm sound, certified to the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1982, emits from both the Sentinel and speakers on the carrying system.

The lung-demand valve (also called the regulator) includes two independent buttons on either side where it fits into the full-face mask at any angle, giving a non-indexing, 360-degree connection. The buttons operate independent of one another, but both must be pressed simultaneously in order to unlock the LDV from the mask. The new collar housing for the buttons serve as a guide to make it easier to fit the LDV into the mask’s connector.

With muscle memory, a Firefighter can hit the doffing button to turn off air flow and the two buttons to remove the LDV with one gloved hand.

In-Mask Display Notifies Air Remaining

The Dräger FPS 7000 Head-Up Display connects wirelessly and automatically to a Dräger SCBA without any manual action by the wearer. The HUD is required as part of the 2019 Edition of NFPA 1981 with any certified SCBA ensemble.

Red, amber and green LED lights provide feedback just on the periphery of view and flash at regular intervals to keep the wearer updated on cylinder air pressure. The display automatically adapts, making sure the LED lights are brighter or muted based on the ambient lightness or darkness.

The HUD snaps easily into the Dräger FPS 7000 full-face mask without tools. If required, the HUD can transfer between different face masks in a matter of seconds. With an average of 360 hours of use, the battery can be easily changed without any tools.

Quick Connect

The Dräger Quick Connect option for SCBAs means exactly that — replacing the threaded compressed gas association (CGA) with a quicker connection.

Line up the male connection on the cylinder to the female receptor on the SCBA unit and press firmly until it snaps into place and a firefighter is ready to go. To disconnect, all that is needed is a quarter turn and press on the ring around the female connector of SCBA unit and lift the cylinder.

With some practice, firefighters can manage this quick change in just a few seconds. Be sure to ask your Dräger Representative or Authorized Sales Partner if you'd like to include this option.
