Electrochemical Sensors: These sensors operate based on the chemical reactions that occur when a target gas encounters an electrode. They are commonly used for detecting gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and oxygen (O2).
Infrared Sensors: Infrared gas sensors detect gases by measuring the absorption of infrared radiation at a specific wavelength. They are effective in detecting hydrocarbons and certain other gases. In industrial settings, they are often used for detecting combustible gases and carbon dioxide.
Catalytic Bead Sensors: These sensors utilize a heated catalytic bead that oxidizes combustible gases, leading to a change in temperature. This change is then measured to detect flammable gases such as methane and propane.
Photoionization Detectors (PID): PID sensors use ultraviolet light to ionize gas molecules, and the resulting electrical current is measured to detect the concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other gases.
