Every Minute Counts: The Service Perspective on Saving Lives
—When I first joined Dräger more than 20 years ago, I had no idea how profoundly this organization would shape not just my career, but also my outlook on life. Over these two decades, I have come to realize that “Technology for Life” is not just our guiding principle—it is a daily responsibility that pushes us to be better, sharper, and more compassionate in everything we do.
In the world of life-saving technology, no detail is ever too small. Every action we take—whether preventive maintenance, a repair, or a routine maintenance call— can directly impact someone’s life. Many moments come rushing back to me: the late-night calls, the anxious faces of medical staff, the urgency of a critical component that needed replacement. To them, these devices were never just machines—they were lifelines. Those moments defined what service means to me. It has never been only about repairing equipment; it is about protecting trust, enabling caregivers, and ultimately safeguarding lives. That’s why every minute we spend on these devices is critical.
I have come to see how every action in our field carries weight. Even a minor oversight—a skipped test, a delayed update, or a worn-out part—can matter. That’s why at Dräger, we place such importance on services and maintenance. Replacing maintenance parts on time, following manufacturer protocols, and performing essential checks are not just “tasks”—they are our assurance of reliability.
Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. Many times, people underestimate the value of services. Some see it as an avoidable cost. But my team and I have always believed otherwise. A minor delay, a skipped test, or a neglected component can have consequences that none of us can afford. Despite challenges, our focus has always remained clear: restoring and maintaining device integrity throughout its service life. This commitment is what defines us.
What Keeps Me Going
Two decades is a long time in any career, but my motivation has only grown stronger. The reason is simple: I’ve seen firsthand the impact of what we do.
Every time a clinician tells me that a Dräger device helped them save a life, it reignites my commitment. Every acknowledgment from a customer, every “thank you”, reminds me that service is not just about technology—it’s about people. My team inspires me too. I see them stepping out of their comfort zones, working long hours, going that extra mile—not because they have to, but because they know that in our line of work, saving lives is the ultimate goal.
On a personal level, this journey has changed me. It has taught me patience, attention to detail, and above all, empathy. I have realized that excellence is not about grand achievements—it’s about small, consistent actions that together create an extraordinary impact.
When I look back, I feel grateful—for the opportunity to serve, for the trust placed in us, and for being part of an organization that values life above everything else. For me, Dräger has never been just a workplace. It has been, and continues to be, a mission. Because at the end of the day, saving lives is not just what we do—it’s why we exist. And for that reason, every minute will always count.
