To address global sustainability challenges in resource use and supply chain impact, we are exploring innovations in secondary and alternative materials. While maintaining strict quality and hygiene standards, our goal is to increase the share of recycled and biobased materials where suitable.

We are also focusing on material health and minimising the use of substances of concern. For example, nearly all our hospital consumables and accessories are now free of latex, PVC, and DEHP.

We believe sustainable supply chain management is essential. We collaborate with more than 2,500 suppliers, therefore making a valuable contribution to sustainable business through careful selection of these suppliers. 81% of the production material and finished products for our sites in Europe also comes from Europe. Regular dialogue with our partners helps us monitor performance and address sustainability strategy, transport emissions, and the reduction of waste and environmental impact. 

All our manufacturing facilities are certified according to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 45001 (Health and Safety Management System). 

In 2024 we began planning the implementation of an energy management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001:2018 at our German sites to reduce emissions from our own operations. Systematic energy management supports cost targets and, by identifying potential savings, promotes greater energy efficiency and lower emissions.

A few years ago, we replaced complex paper documentation with digital records for each production order. Today, almost all production-related information, sketches, and processes are available digitally. This simplifies workflows and significantly reduces paper waste.

We are currently running several projects in Product Development and Logistics to optimise product and transport packaging. These initiatives help us reduce waste by cutting packaging material and increasing the share of recycled content.

Medical equipment requires high-performance materials and metals. The Dräger waste management* team takes raw materials from decommissioned products and feeds them back into the circular economy. We safely dispose of non-recyclable materials in line with all applicable regulations.
