WEEE
—WEEE stands for Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and is often used as a synonym for the European Directive 2012/19/EU.
What is the purpose of the WEEE Directive?
—The aim of this directive is the prevention of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in the European Union, and in addition, the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes. It also seeks to improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life-cycle of electrical and electronic equipment (e.g. producers, distributors and consumers). It does so by imposing the obligation on the EU-Member States to implement the requirements of the WEEE Directive in their respective national legislation.

WEEE at Dräger
Draeger is classed as a producer with respect to electronic and electrical equipment (EEE) for ‘users other than private households’ (B2B) under the WEEE Directive and the national laws that implement the WEEE.
The EU WEEE Directive places an obligation on Draeger the Member States to finance the environmentally sound management of WEEE including collection, disposal and treatment of waste electronic equipment (WEEE). We are complying with this responsibility by, among others, taking back our products for lawful and environmentally responsible treatment. Please contact your local Draeger office for specific take-back arrangements in your country.
Additional information
- WEEE can be dangerous. You should ensure that the WEEE is collected separately and sent for proper treatment. Used batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed by the old appliance, as well as lamps that can be removed from the waste appliance without destroying them must be separated from the waste non-destructively from the waste appliance before handing it in at a collection point. WEEE contains hazardous substances and if not managed and treated safely it can cause pollution and damage human health.
- The WEEE symbol was adopted by the European Council to represent WEEE. It comprises of a crossed-out wheeled bin with or without a single black line underneath the symbol. The crossed out wheeled-bin symbol on the product reminds users not to dispose WEEE in the bin.
- It lies within the personal responsibility of end users to delete any personal data on the WEEE that are to be disposed of.
