Positive environmental impact

Reducing the environmental impact of our equipment and resources includes digitalization. We are creating digital solutions to improve hospital processes. Aspects such as faster reaction times, minimizing maintenance times and costs and the ability to obtain device information remotely, ultimately mean less travel or allow problem identification to happen remotely.

At a global level we employ numerous measures to reduce our energy consumption, resource and equipment. We also actively take environmental aspects into consideration when it comes to new investments. We work with certified waste management companies (product take-back) and recycle 98% of our manufacturing waste.

Green anaesthesia

Making anaesthesia environmentally sustainable

Anaesthetic gases are well established in modern anaesthesia thanks to ease of use, good controllability, and efficacy profile. However, 50% of total greenhouse gas emissions from an OR come from volatile anaesthetics, harming the environment and contributing towards climate change.

Dräger anaesthesia machines have extremely low energy consumption which supports the safe and convenient application of minimal flow anaesthesia. This ultimately reduces the ecological footprint.

Another great advantage is the gas consumption analytics dashboard,. This provides insights into low-flow usage across the department and allows the department to monitor the teams’ concordance with low-flow best practices.

Minimising the footprint with minimal- and low-flow

Anaesthetic gases help provide patients with an experience which avoids unpleasant sensations whilst greatly enhancing the outcome of surgery. But the emission of volatile anaesthetics contributes to greenhouse emissions and climate change.

Inbound Logistics: Shuttle / Reusable Packaging

Green Hospital - Reduce (Deliveries boat)

A strategic focus will be a circular economy. In practice, this means the optimization of packaging, increased use of reusable transport packaging, and the further expansion of our existing product return and recycling services.

We make over 400k deliveries around the world each year. We minimize our use of packaging materials for economic and environmental reasons. We use reusable packaging where there is regular exchange with suppliers who are close to production. A software-supported system for reusable transport packaging in the supply of production was introduced in cooperation with ten suppliers.

Also, we actively recycle wood, metal, cardboard, plastics, paper, and electronic equipment avoiding the need for disposal.
