Social responsibility - Every newborn deserves a good start into life and a safe place to grow

As Specialists in Acute Care, we also take responsibility for those who cannot afford high-end technology easily. With our non-invasive Bubble CPAP system, Seattle PAP, as well as our neonatal cooling device, MiraCradle, we offer affordable solutions to those in need. The goal is to reduce newborn mortality and offer a better and easier start into life for these infants.

Seattle PAP – Interview with Anita Zaidi from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

“In lower- middle income countries and low income countries, right now, a very big cause of death is premature births, that don’t have the support that they need” Anita Zaidi, Director, Vaccine Development, Surveillance and Enteric and Diarrheal Disease programs, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, describes the challenges that new-borns face in lower-middle income countries and how the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is committed to enable a healthy and productive life for children all over the world. According to her, “something like Seattle PAP could really be a game changer in these situations”.

Fighting neonatal mortality

The mortality rate of newborns in developing countries is still high. Bogale Worku (MD), Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health and Executive Director of the Ethiopian Paediatrics Society, talks about the challenges of neonatologists in Africa. He is disappointed that a lot of hospitals are still lacking innovative technology, resources and knowledge to help babies thrive and to involve parents in the care process. According to him, medical suppliers need to offer affordable technology to help reduce the mortality rates globally.

Neonatal Cooling

Perinatal asphyxia is a medical condition in newborns caused by an impairment of respiratory function which leads to hypoxemia and hypercapnia, resulting in metabolic acidosis. Hypoxic event may occur before, during or shortly after the birth and it may affect the brain as well as other organs, and in severe cases may lead to brain injury or even death.

MiraCradle is an affordable cooling device to induce therapeutic hypothermia among newborns suffering from birth asphyxia. It is safe, easy to use, and service free.

Seattle PAP – Bubble CPAP System

The Seattle-Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) system is an innovation which uses the proven advantages of Bubble CPAP therapy, such as oscillatory effects similar to high frequency ventilation.
