Airway Pressure Release Ventilation as Protective Ventilation Strategy
—According to studies, 10% of all admitted ICU patients and 23% in patients requiring mechanical ventilator develop an acute ARDS. One of the strategies in managing patients with ARDS is the use of Airway Pressure Release Ventilation (APRV) mode. The clinical use of APRV has been shown to facilitate spontaneous breathing and is associated with decreased peak airway pressures and improved oxygenation/ventilation when compared with conventional ventilation. Learn from the experiences of Dr. Chua in Cardinal Santos Medical Center in using APRV as protective ventilation strategy.
