Draeger Safety UK- Beach Clean up

Our commitment

At Dräger, our commitment to health and safety extends beyond the workplace to our marine life and beautiful coastlines! We believe the culture of responsibility and sustainability should be adopted throughout our work and personal lives.

Our marketing team worked closely with Northumbrian Water Group (NWG), enabling us to join them on this beach cleanup at Marsden Beach on 20th June 2024. Particularly highlighting the efforts of Jo Marshall, who exemplifies this ethos through her active participation in this community event, showcasing her dedication to preserving the natural environment.

Why It Matters

Participating in such events aligns with Dräger’s values of sustainability and social responsibility. The involvement underscores the importance of taking proactive steps to protect our environment. By removing rubbish from the beach, Jo and the other volunteers helped to:

- Protect Marine Life: Debris, especially plastics, poses a significant threat to marine animals. Ingesting or becoming entangled in waste can lead to injury or death for many species.

- Help the Ecosystem Survive: There is a major risk to our ecosystem, and our natural bodies of water are a vital part of this. Keeping them clean will help reduce chemical pollution from plastics, preserve natural environments, and overall help marine life.

- Promote Community Spirit and Preserve Natural Beauty: This initiative brings communities together as part of one big cause. Keeping our local beaches clean is surely something we all want.

Who’s involved?

SeaScapes, is committed to initiating projects throughout the year to protect our coastlines in the Northeast of England. Funded by the Heritage Fund.

The Tyne to Tees seascape holds both local and national significance, yet it deserves greater exploration and recognition. The SeaScapes project will help achieve just that. After extensive planning and collaboration from their dedicated team, we are thrilled to be a part of this initiative.

Teamed Up with SeaScapes and Northumbrian Water Group

The beach cleanup event, organised by SeaScapes, provided an opportunity for individuals, families and organisations to come together and make a tangible difference in their community. The initiative aimed to address the growing issue of marine pollution, which threatens wildlife, ecosystems, and even human health. Jo partnered with NWG and frequent volunteers and spent the day armed with litter pickers, bags, and determination. They scoured the shore for debris, from plastic bottles and discarded fishing nets to crisp packets and microplastics that have been washed up or left by beachgoers.

Inspiring Change

Jo’s participation in the beach cleanup is motivating to all of us at Dräger. Her actions remind us that each individual's effort contributes to a larger, collective impact. By engaging in community social value initiatives and environmental conservation, we can all help to foster a healthier planet.

"We are thrilled to be able to join forces with the fantastic team at NWG who have regular beach clean ups as part of the SeaScapes initiative, supported by Heritage Fund. Protecting the environment and making a positive impact on local beaches aligns perfectly with our ethos. By participating in this event, we removed litter, helping to protect marine life and ensuring our beautiful coastline remains pristine for everyone to enjoy. We also met some fantastic people along the way!"  -Jo Marshall, Internal Account Team Lead.
