Individual solutions: gas detection systems designed for you

Every industrial plant is different. From our extensive experience, we know that fixed fire and gas detection systems are only as effective as the planning which goes in to them. To that end, we work in close collaboration with our customers to provide guidance through the complete process – from consultation through design, realisation and implementation. So, you can achieve the best possible solution for your specific needs.

Customised monitoring solutions for a vast variety of industrial applications

Each industry and each application within, has its own requirements, challenges and legal regulations. A flame and gas detection system that fits exactly to your site won’t fit to another one. This is why we don’t sell fixed gas monitoring solution off-the-peg. We start by talking about your specific requirements, that has to be considered. In this step-by-step-process you can trust the vast experience and know-how of our experts. They will design a gas detection system for you that is neither too small nor too big, but ever: reliable.

From small and simple to big detection systems with complex settings

Each fixed fire and gas detection system is individual – whether you need a simple alarm system for a manageable area or a tailor-made solution with highly complex settings. Whether you have many or only a view measuring points. Whether you need to create a completely new system or whether you have to integrate the solution into existing infrastructure. Discover this brief explanation of different requirements for a fixed gas detection system and see how our experts support you in every step of the process.

Fixed gas detection introduction

Introduction to Fixed Gas Detection

Dräger is a successful global player in the field of gas measuring technology. For more than 70 years we have been developing our products, repeatedly setting new standards for accuracy and durability.

No two gas warning systems are identical. Each Gas Detection Application is specific to a site and company conditions, due to potentially hazardous areas and legal regulations.

Every gas detection system which we design, build and install is bespoke based on our client’s individual requirements to ensure it offers the best possible protection.

Our portfolio of fixed gas detection systems includes an extensive range of toxic, flammable and oxygen monitors as well as multiple other gas measuring technologies.

With the right solutions and reliable equipment, the threat of explosive gas leaks or overexposure to toxic hazards can be drastically reduced.

Fixed gas sales

Sales

Custom solutions

The integration of gas measuring and warning systems into existing infrastructures requires complex planning and flexible products. Chemical/physical data, technical potential, legal requirements and of course, your operational processes need to be aligned. We provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education along with technical presentations and demonstration on how a product meets your needs. This ensures that the correct devices and systems are provided for use within specific projects.

Assessment of individual factors

Gas hazards

All gases have different molecular properties, including weights. The gas hazard must be assessed and the system specified appropriately.

Location

The location in which you are monitoring should be assessed – including, for example, the ambient air flow. Fixed-point detection sensors rely on the gas passing across the sensor to be detected. Therefore, the gas detector must be positioned appropriately, taking into consideration the risk, environmental conditions and any other constraints.

Alarms

What do you want the fixed gas detection system to tell you? If you’re monitoring for explosive gases or oxygen depletion, it should tell you that there has been a gas leak. If you are monitoring toxic gases with average exposure limits – STEL (short-term exposure limit over 15 mins) or TWA (time-weighted average exposure limit over an 8 hour period) – the requirement may be to calculate these averages over these two periods or trigger at a specific level.

Closed loop

You can use fixed gas detection systems to monitor and control an environment. The outputs of the control panel can activate emergency extraction – for example, to ventilate a confined space and reduce the unwanted gases. In some cases, fixed gas detection systems activate to shut down processes as a safety precaution in order to allow for corrective maintenance.

Solutions for ammonia cooling

In the food & beverages industry ammonia is often used for cooling during the production process. It has to be stored and monitored constantly.

What’s your potential challenge:

  • Ammonia is toxic, flammable, corrosive, and has a destructive effect on plant components
  • Leaks must be detected as early as possible
  • During production ammonia is pressed into the cooling device under pressure which leads to high risks

What’s our specific solution:

  • Durable electrochemical sensors, also for ammonia
  • Adjustable alarm levels to detect leakages at an early stage
  • Individual advice on position and frequency of measuring points
  • Decision on automatic countermeasures based on individual situation
  • One partner on site for consultation, installation, commissioning and maintenance

Cold storage in the food and beverage industry

Over 130 million tonnes of ammonia are used globally each year. This makes it one of the most manufactured chemicals in the industry. However ammonia is toxic, and involves considerable risks when used as a coolant in industrial plants. Take a look at our video to learn how gas measuring technology can protect and support you against exposure.
