Image-Guided Lung Protection - The concept and clinical application examples

This lecture provides an introduction into the challenges of assessing lung recruitability and finding best PEEP, describes the most commonly used EIT-based images and parameters, and how they may be used to support these clinical tasks. Clinical application examples are presented to illustrate the patient’s heterogenous responses to the same manoeuvre and to discuss why the individual responses are so different.

Optimising Perinatal Transition & Family Integrated Care in the Delivery Room with Dr. Paul Cawley

In our webinar we’ll explore the evidence and practicalities of early newborn care – focusing on the needs of the extremely preterm infant. Optimising transition from the uterine to ex-utero environment requires both proactive and responsive strategies; whilst focus is understandably on neonatal resuscitation, we’ll consider how best practice medical support and intensive care can be maintained within a parental embrace.

The Neonatal Ecosystem - How evidence based design of the NICU allows for a nurturing environment

Like evidenced based medicine, building a NICU needs to be an evidenced based build. This webinar looks at the NICU Ecosystem and how the infant, its family, the staff, the equipment and the building affect and influence one another. We outline how the physical area can influence the baby and their developing brain in the NICU and how family needs to be accommodated.

Protective ventilation during pediatric surgery with Atlan anaesthesia workstations

One general rule in paediatric anaesthesiology is for mechanical ventilation: small changes in delivered tidal volume can lead to unintended hyper- and hypoventilation with hypo- or hypercarbia, with negative impacts on the growing brain and the risk of lung injury. This video explains how Atlan family ventilation technologies and functionalities can support the anaesthesiologists to apply protective ventilation approaches for paediatric patients during general anaesthesia.

Protective ventilation during bariatric surgery with Atlan anaesthesia workstations

Patients who are obese present a certain set of challenges and require specific perioperative care, as they have a higher risk of complications. In addition, placing obese patients in a supine position further reduces respiratory compliance. Therefore, different methods in ventilation and positioning must be used to improve pre-oxygenation, induction and recovery. This video explains how Atlan family ventilation technologies and functionalities can support the anaesthesiologists to apply protective ventilation approaches for obese patients during general anaesthesia.

Low flow anaesthesia for lung protective ventilation

Respiratory gas conditioning is important to protect the lungs and is a universal standard of care. Cold and dry respiratory gases reduce ciliary activity in the respiratory epithelium. The reduction of mucociliary clearance can lead to atelectasis and infections, conditions referred to as postoperative pulmonary complications.

Lung protective ventilation of paediatric patients during general anaesthesia

Particular challenges of anaesthetising newborns, infants and young children is reflected in the higher perioperative mortality of paediatric patients compared to adults. The anaesthesia-related mortality of children is currently estimated higher than of adults.
